Insheim has 220 inhabitants and an area of 8 km². It was first documentally mentioned in 782 as "Ansilheim".

The protestant church has a gothic steeple from 1518, the nave was rebuilt in 1745.

The catholic church of Saint Michael was built in neo romanuesque style in 1912 by leading architect Bosslet.

The town hall was expanded in 1733, the ground floor is of renaissance architecture.

Insheim has numerous characteristc timbered vintner houses.
