Kirrweiler has 2080 inhabitants and an area of 14,9 km². It was first documentally mentioned in 1217 as "Kirwilre".

Kirrweiler has 3 steeples and parts of wall of the former town fortification are preserved.

The former water castle of the bishop of Speyer was destroyed in the french revolution in 1789.

The catholic church was built in 1749 according to plans of Johann Georg Stahl, cross vaulting and late gothis windows around 1603 in the ground floor of the steeple, renaissance baptismal font.

Kirrweiler also has numerous buildings from the 16th - 18th century.
