Gleisweiler has 570 inhabitants and an area of 3,7km². It was first documentally mentioned in 1007 as "Glizenwilere".

The steeple of the local catholic church St. Stephanus was built in 1354, the nave dates back to 1760. The altar is from the construction time, the altars on the side are from 1710 and 1760.

Gleisweiler has some renaissance houses from the 16th century and numerous houses from the 17th - 18th century.
