Gerolsheim has 1700 inhabitants and an area of 4,8 km². It ws first documentally mentioned in 915 as "Geroltesheimero marca".

The catholic church of St. Leodegar is a former fortified church, the steeple was built in 1463, the nave is a neo romanesque extension built in 1844.

The protestant church was built according to plans of August von Voit in 1834.
