Goennheim has 1520 inhabitants and an area of 6,5 km². It was first documentally mentioned in 770 as "Ginnenheim".

The protestant church is a baroque building from the 18th century.

The "Affensteiner Hof", a former farmstead is a Renaissance building from 1662 with timbered upper floor.

Goennheim has prosperous houses from the 16th - 19th century, it is one of the villages with comprehensive historic buildings in the Palatinate.
