Hochstadt has 2500 inhabitants and an area of 15,5 km². It was first documentally mentioned in 776 as "Hohunstat"

The protestant church (district Niederhochstadt) was built in 1738, the steeple from 1557 was extended in the 18th century, bearing ribbed vaultings in the basement.

The catholic church (Niederhochstadt) of St. Michael was built in 1827.

The catholic church (district Oberhochstadt) of St. George was built in the middle of the 18th century and later extended by a side nave.

The protestant church (Oberhochstadt) is a baroque nave type church from 1727.

Hochstadt has numerous buildings from the 18th and 19th century, some built of stone, some are framework type houses.
